Graduation Cupcakes

A lady at worked asked me if I would make cupcakes for her son's graduation barbeque. She wanted 60 graduation themed cupcakes with green and yellow icing to represent the school colours. Sounded straight forward enough and I was excited to do it. I'd never done anything for a graduation. I decided to make fondant diplomas, tied with licorice, with the words "Congrats", "Cole", and "2014" made out of chocolate.

For the most part everything went as planned, but there were a few mishaps. First, my husband was digging around in the deep freeze and accidentally shook up my container of chocolate "congrats". He said he check them and didn't think any of them were broken. As I expected, every single one of them were broke. Luckily, they don't take long to make so it wasn't much trouble to do them again. I still had to melt chocolate to make the 2014's anyway.

Then when putting the last pan of cupcakes into the oven I managed to catch the pan on the oven door and spilled pretty much all of it into the oven. That caused some delay while I scrapped burning cupcake off the element before whipping up a new batch.

It was fairly warm in the house while I was decorating and I could barely touch the chocolate words or else they melted. I broke a few that way. That is why I always make extra of everything! I had to very carefully maneuver the words in to place with the spatula I was using to lift them off the wax paper.

By 1 in the morning they were all boxed up and ready to go!

I thought they turned out pretty good but had to wait until Monday to hear how they went over. And I was so glad when my co-worker came in said they went over very well! Only 3 left! So, Congratulation to Cole on his high school graduation!

Bridal Cupcakes

One of the girls in the office is getting married in a couple of weeks so we had a lunch for her. I made these cupcakes to bring. I love using melted chocolate chip designs! They always turn out great and look classy! I'm beginning to like decorating cupcakes more and more. I just need another oven so I can bake them quicker!

Bridal Shower Cupcakes

A girl from work is getting married next weekend so the office planned a bridal shower lunch for her. I brought along these cupcakes.

I know my last few posts have been all cakes, but I am also working on a couple other sewing projects! I cut some squares for a quilt and I'm trying to finish a page of my cross stitch! As soon as I have the page done I will share it!

This Little Piggy

I was asked to make some cupcakes for a little girl's first birthday. When I first talked to her dad over the phone the connection was a little fuzzy and I heard "cupcakes with pigs". I was sure I heard wrong! It would have never occurred to me to put pigs on cupcakes. I thought maybe he said pink. Turns out I heard right the first time and they did want piggies on cupcakes! After I googled some images I discovered some very cute piggy cupcakes!

I came up with a version that worked for me and using an assortment of cookie cutters made 45 cute piggy faces out of fondant. The bow added the perfect girly touch.

I iced the cupcakes with chocolate icing to make it look like the piggies were in mud.

And placed them in my cupcake boxes, that I got from the IT Department at work (I think they probably held computer monitors at one time!), with my trusty non-slip shelf liner to keep them from sliding around.

When all was said and done I was very happy with how they turned out. Really a cute idea for a little girl's birthday.

It will be exciting when my little gal turns one! I have so many cake ideas for her I'm going to have a hard time picking one!

200 Cupcakes

On Saturday one of my husband's very good friends was married. My husband was best man, and I was asked to make the cupcakes, so between the two of us there was a lot going on! Luckily the in-laws took the boys so I didn't have to worry about them snitching!

The task of making 200 marble cupcakes with cream cheese frosting seemed daunting. I've never done that many cupcakes before. It took hours, but most of the time I was waiting on the oven since I could only bake one pan at a time. If I ever build a house it is definitely going to have 2 ovens!

The decorating started off a little rough - turns out you can't beat the cream cheese too much if you want it to stay on a cupcake! I got the second batch right, thank goodness! I got these boxes from work. They were perfect for transporting. 23 to a box, 9 boxes, 2 trips!

They looked pretty good and everyone enjoyed them. Hard work, but well worth the time put in.
